The Concept of Business Incubation

A business incubator is an economic development tool designed to accelerate the growth and success of entrepreneurial companies through an array of business support resources and services. A business incubator's main goal is to produce successful companies that will leave the program financially viable and freestanding.
A business incubator usually also provide clients access to appropriate rental space and flexible leases, shared basic office services and equipment, technology support services, and assistance in obtaining the financing necessary to company growth.
These incubator "graduates" create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, commercialize critical new technologies and strengthen local and national economies.
Two principles characterize effective business incubation:
1) The incubator aspires to have a positive impact on its community's economic health by maximizing the success of emerging companies.
2) The incubator is itself a dynamic model of a sustainable, efficient business operation.
HPCD currently holds two business incubators, the first in the Varreux industrial sector of Port-au-Prince, and the second in Martissant.
