History
HPCD started in 1999 when a group of Haitian businesspeople went to Michigan to attend the annual meeting of “Partners for Christian Development”, now “Partners Worldwide”. Based in the United States, this faith-based organization connects North American businesspeople and professionals who want to bridge the gap between their entrepreneurs and those of under-developed and developing countries in order to grow small and medium businesses and create jobs in areas of need by developing business partnerships domestically and internationally, coordinating partnerships of mentoring and training, increasing access to capital, and utilizing advocacy.
Following meetings with the board of Partners Worldwide, these Haitian entrepreneurs decided to form an affiliate business association based in Port-au-Prince. In January 2000, HPCD was created. This association of businesspeople—all volunteers—set out to help local entrepreneurs grow their commercial activities and to promote local production and job creation.
