The day began with a check-in session and creation of student profiles for 71 individuals (profiles attached). The Youth Placement program coordinators, Laurene Cetoute and Elva Merzeus, introduced the agenda for the day as well expectations for youth participation in the program. An introduction speech was also provided by the HPCD director, Ernso Jean Louis, to motivate full youth participation in the program as well as the long term benefits the program can provide for the youth.  Mr. Jean Louis emphasized the useful application of the training on the lives of the youth in the long term spectrum of their lives and consequently a stronger community.

The day continued with a speech by a past program participant. The previous intern shared his experiences with the group and the success he is experiencing from the work he completed with the construction company. Particularly, the characteristics needed to become successful in the program including the eagerness to work and showing interest in the field. The presenter continued to share his story by revealing his new position as a manager in the company where he previously held his internship. He emphasized the importance of the program which gave him a second opportunity to start fresh and create a better future for himself, a point also expressed by Mr. Jean Louis in making the participants understand the chance they are given through the program. The youth provided feedback on the presentation, revealing the inspiring nature of the speaker and their positive outlook on the program.

A lunch break was provided to the participants and lunch was served by HPCD. Participants were then asked to fill out information packets and sign a contract, all of which was reviewed by HPCD staff for clarity in responding to the forms. The documents are designated for the HPCD staff to acquaint themselves with the participants and place them in the internships accordingly. The pictures taken will be included in the profile.

A meeting was held between the interns and HPCD staff involved through the day to review the agenda and make modifications for the following days such that a more efficient and useful program could be provided to the participants.
